The Mother Who changed the Course of Church History

Monica was a Christian woman living in fifth-century Northern Africa when that region was still part of the Roman Empire. In 354 A.D, she gave birth to a boy, her only child and her pride and joy. She taught the boy of Christ's love and prayed for him constantly. But as the boy grew up, he abandoned her teaching, choosing instead to pursue the worldly pleasures-as well as the pagan philosophies and religious beliefs-that were so readily available in the late Roman Empire. But through it all, Monica continued to pray for her son faithfully, convinced that God would reach him eventually. When Monica's son was thirty years old, God finally broke through. Monica's son was Saint Augustine, and the truths she taught him at her knee have echoed throughout history.

Susanna Wesley was no stranger to suffering. She lived in the shadow of poverty, illness, and hardship. She gave birth to nineteen children, but nine of them died before the age of two. Still, she remained faithful and committed herself to teaching her children the things of God. Though her huge family was squeezed into a tiny house, she valued quiet time with God, and she made sure she got it. When she sat down and pulled her apron over her head, her children knew not to disturb her: she was praying. He faithfulness paid huge dividends. One of her sons, John, went on to found the Methodist Church. Another son, Charles, wrote over nine thousand hymns and remains one of the best-love hymnists of all time.

Did You Know?

Julia Ward Howe is credited as being the first person to propose a Mother's Day in America, though it wasn't exactly the Mother's Day we all know and love. In 1872 she called for a day when mothers would join together for huge anti-war demonstrations. Her other claim to fame? She wrote "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Mother's Day as we know it came about thanks to the efforts of Anna M. Jarvis. The first Mother's Day church service was held, at her request, on Sunday, May 10, 1908, in Grafton, West Virginia. Six years later, in 1914, Congress officially declared the second Sunday in May to be a day to honor mothers.

Shopping with Paul

Yesterday was a fairly good day for Paul so after church he felt like he wanted to do a little shopping at the Christmas Tree Shop and Big Lots. Well after Mass I have to make my usual stop at Dunkin Donuts for my ice coffee or my day is going no wear fast, so after getting all geared up with the caffeine we are off for a couple of hours of looking around for me and maybe picking up a few odds and ends. Well our first stop was the Christmas Tree Shop, bargains big time.....................do I need too say anymore. I picked up two very inexpensive comforters to put over my couch and love seat and they look really good. I have to tell you my living room set is over 20 years old but it still is in okay shape and I am not ready to purchase a new one yet, Chester is still a 5 year old baby and does pretty much what he wants. Well getting back to subject at hand great deal there than we moved on too Big Lots and Paul got a deal here he picked up 2 more lights for his work shop in the cellar. I am telling you he was just like a little boy in a candy store, all I could hear from him is "what lights" for 12.00 and there are only "2". If you girls don't know this these are the words of a man saying to his wife, I got to have them. Of course I never have ever said to Paul do you really think you need these........this is so not me. I love to see him have a place to play and enjoy himself and he does in his little workshop in the cellar. I do have to tell you I picked up these 3 little books with some wonderful sayings in them as well, one is for Sister, Friends and Mothers so last night I sat rid alto of them and they are awesome I must say. I will use them for some layouts that I will be making in the very near future and will post on my gallery. I have not made my gallery accessible yet as it is still under construction but it will be up and running very soon for all too see.

I just had to come back and drop a quick note and post a picture of my wishing well. Please do make a wish.........We get much more snow I will have to take some snow off my wishing well, I don't want all my wishes to get wet.

Winter Wonderland

Will this is what we have been doing lately. It truly is a Winter Wonderland here at our house. I do have to admitted though the scenery is beautiful. As I am typing this tonight we are getting more snow and the accumulation is to be about 12 inches, so I guess I will have to kept the old shine on the shovel. Late this afternoon I took Chester for a walk on the camp road and it was snowing big flakes and it was really so pretty, he was really enjoying it and I must say I was as well. I took this picture this morning before it started snowing and I took several of out front of the house facing the cove all of my shrubs are laid right over. Happy New Year! I almost forgot to give my wishes to you all. We are so blessed to have come into another year, we can only hope that things do change for the better in the world.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you all! It has been a very nice day for us, we got up and had coffee and than went to Church and than later this afternoon we went over to Bill and Kim's for an open house type of gathering. There was so much food, shrimp, ham, dips, chips and of course sweets oh my goodies there was nothing missing it was wonderful. I visited with such wonderful ladies we had some great laughs and good chats and the guys were laughing up a storm in the kitchen I suppose telling them old war stories of theirs or filling one another full of figgy pudding. Kim's tree was so beautiful we sat there and just complemented on and talked about our own and than of course I had to tell the girls about my tree.............yes my ceramic tree I put up this year instead of a regular tree. I guess I have not been in much of the Christmas spirit this year with so much going on and things being so upside down, maybe next year. Will I am going to go and check and see if the girls are on the forum and maybe chat for a bite than I am off to slumber land..........good nite one and all.

Brad & Kate's Wedding

This is the happy couple, my nephew Brad and his new wife Kate. They had there wedding at the Oak's in Somerworth, NH. The most beautiful Country Club, Golf Course and me with no clubs, one just can not catch a break. Of course I am only kidding, this truly was not the day to golf it was so hot and humid was just unreal, but everything went on without a problem heat wise. Kate's brother Abram grew all the cut flowers. The arrangements are done in all fall colors being the time of year. Kate is a Principal and a Sophomore advisor and Brad does Landscaping design, he is a very talented artist. I guess that drawing he must of inherited from his Aunt...............! What do you think?

ScrapHappy KT this is a new site I have joined in the past two weeks and I just love it, the ladies are awesome and there is allot going on there. We started Bingo this past week and the ladies just started a weekend crop tonight and ScrapHappy has an online store, I could just go on, there is just so much happening.
